DANE's BIRTH

Landon Dane Merlin Grassy
DANE
born: September 21st, 2003, at 12:32 a.m.
weight: 8 lbs., 15.9 oz.; length: 20.5 inches.

One concern about trying to have another child were the odds of having multiples again. It didn't help that the ultrasound took place on 3-3-3 (March 3rd, 2003). Lisa was a bit relieved seeing only one child on the sonogram. It was too early to determine the gender. We have decided to let it be a surprise again. It will be interesting to see the difference in the challenges of one. Though, with two toddlers, we are sure it will remain chaotic. The due date of this child was September 16th, the same as when Lisa was pregnant with the twins.

Late Friday night, September 19th, we went to the hospital to check that everything was still OK. Lisa was not feelingas much movement as she had recently. The vitals of the baby seemed fine, but an ultrasound showed that the amnio fluid wasgetting very low. Around 1:30 a.m. of September 20th, the doctor decided that it might be best for Lisa to stay overnight and begin inducing later in the day. Brock, Maddy, Grandma Merlin and Richard made a couple visits to the hospital during the day. That night, it was decided that Richard would spend the night at home with the kids and Grandma. Around 10:30 p.m., Lisa called to say that her contractions were getting stronger and her water had broke. Bob came over at 11 p.m, and Richard drove to the hospital. It was time to have another child. Lisa had been moved to the delivery room by the time Richard arrived. She was waiting for the anasthesiologist to show up to provide an epidural. Fifty minutes and two projectile vomits later, he finally sauntered into the delivery room. By this time, the baby was about to crown. A slow decision was made to provide nitrous oxide instead. Lisa jerked off the mask immediately as she felt claustrophobic. Less than five minutes later, at 12:32 a.m. on Sunday, September 21st, our baby boy had arrived! It certainly was a painful delivery, but the recovery time was much faster than with the twins. About 20 hours later, 8 p.m. the same day, Lisa and baby Dane came home. She delivered justafter midnight on the 21st, rested during the day and checked out at 8pm the same day. She wanted to get home as quickly as possible.

One interesting side note, Dane had the same due date as the twins (Sep 16), the same labor room, and the same delivery room (Room 8)! The only thing they don't share is the birthdate as Brock and Maddy were 2 weeks early and Dane was one week late.
