We had to make a pilgrammage at the infamous Powder River rest area located in Wyoming. It is the only turnoff between the cities of Buffalo and Gillette. Richard's family and a couple cousins took a trip out west when he was a kid. All were loaded in a van. At the rest stop, his dad asked if anyone needed to go to the bathroom. Only Richard, a cousin, the oldest sister and dad needed to use it. When people piled back into the automobile, he asked if we were all in. Of course we all said yes. A few miles down the road, a trucker asked across the CB channel asked if anyone was left a little girl at the rest area. He described her. My dad again asked if we were all here, getting the same response. Next he asked each of us individually to respond. No answer from Sarah, who must have been around 5 years old. As there were no turn-arounds for a great distance, it took about 45 minutes to get back to her. The trucker was livid that someone would leave her. My dad in turn was livid. Hey, what was the problem? Seemed pretty funny to all the kids! Except Sarah, who still seems to be scarred from the incident.
We stopped in Onalaska, WI, to visit our Great Grandma Grassy.
