Andy Warhol - 19 Jan 2007

The G-Pod Family Art History Workshop series continues with Andy Warhol. Warhol was an American artist associated with Pop Art. Pop art was a visual artistic movement that emerged in the early 1950s. Characterized by themes and techniques drawn from popular mass culture, such as advertising and comic books, pop art is widely interpreted as either a reaction to the then dominant ideas of abstract expressionism or an expansion upon them. The goal of our workshop is to learn about an artist in the selected style and then try our hand at creating it.

We framed all the pictures on black paper and taped to our living room wall used for rotating displays of art. The framed pictures contain individual pictures done with paint or crayon.

Andy Warhol-style G Pod, Dane, Maddy, Brock using tempera paints. Images on the left were done by Mom; images on the right were done by the kids. A photograph was printed out in black and white. The basic image of the person was traced onto the paper. Mom traced the image onto the opposite side of the paper while the kids held their images up to the window and traced it on to the printed side. Paint was then applied to the image. Dane did mainly just the painting step.
