Dane was a Seymour H. Kaplan Humanitarian Award nominee for his 1st grade class. The goal of the award is to honor students who are kind, generous, understanding, and who work to decrease discrimination and bigotry at school and in the community.

His sister also was a nominee in 1st grade. His brother was supposed to be a co-nominee, but the teacher decided to not have siblings win it together for some reason.
